Our moon cycles are called such because they follow the phases of the Moon in growing and shrinking, destruction and rebuilding. The same way the Moon affects the waters, so it affects people being composed mostly of water, and woman especially, who represents the energy of water. The Moon has a tugging effect on the oceans and seemingly pulls wom(b)man through her cycles.
Let's start with the phase most are familiar with, the full Moon. This is the time that Earth is positioned between Sun and Moon, and the Sun is reflected on the entirety of the Moon's surface that's facing Earth. This is when Moon is fully open to Sun, which has in recent times represented masculine energy.
Conversely woman is at her most open to man sexually because she is at the height of her ovulation. This is a time of fullness. Moon is full of Sun's energy and taking in and reflecting all of its energy possible. Women want to take in and absorb the sexual energy of men. Her womb is full of a life giving lining that will house and nourish the potential baby.
After it's fullness, Moon begins a waning, or decreasing, period. Similarly, the womb begins to come down from its heightened state. Since the egg has not been fertilized, the body prepares to release the egg along with the lining it has been cradled in. Gradually woman's sexual energy wanes as well.
Following the waning cycle, we have dark Moon. The dark moon is when Moon is between Sun and Earth and is reflecting none of Sun's light onto Earth. The Moon has figuratively turned her back to Sun. This is a time of emptiness.
During this phase in a woman's cycle, she is emptied of her uterine lining and her body releases the unfertilized egg as well. She in effect turns her back on others and wishes to be alone. This supposed to be a still and quiet time for women. The same way Moon is dark, women are to go within (darkness) in a period of introspection. In the darkness, when women are sleeping, dreams are vivid and messages relayed more clearly than usual.
The next Moon phase is the new Moon, a time of newness. The cycle has completed. There has been expansion, fullness, diminution, emptiness, and now rebirth. Woman feels re-energized. The womb is preparing to begin the next cycle.
Ensuing the new Moon is a period of waxing, or growth. Moon moves toward her fullness. The uterus begins to line itself with life giving blood and tissue that will house a new egg and in the event of fertilization, the new fetus. This lining grows until it reaches its fullness--when woman is most fertile. Woman's sexuality begins to increase as well. At the climax of this growth is the full moon, and woman's period of ovulation.
Even if a woman menstruates during the full Moon, or during another phase, she still experiences all the phases of the Moon and cycles through accordingly. She will go through her peak of sexual energy as well as her personal lowest point sexually. It is not necessary for your cycle to be aligned with that of the Moon, but this can be easily accomplished if desired. Any woman who's lived with one or more other women can attest to the fact that our cycles will regulate one another's, and eventually all the women in that household will cycle together.
You may or may not know, but I co-host an online radio show, Raw Talk with Curtis and Erica. Last week, I took the helm solo and interviewed a special guest: Makeda Voletta. We discussed women, our mysticism, history, and our moon cycles, or periods. The information shared in the show is essential for men and women in learning how to heal ourselves, enjoy heightened love making, and enjoy a better quality of life. Get your copy of the show here.
